photocharCharlene Kurkjian, OTR/L
Charlene is owner and director of Powerhouse Therapy. Charlene graduated from Indiana University in 1984 and has over 25 years experience working with both children and adults. She has completed CI therapy training in Birmingham Alabama with Dr. Edward Taub and his team. Other specialized training includes Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation, Splinting/Casting, Feeding and Oral Motor Therapy, Therapeutic Listening, Sensory Processing, Orthopedics, and Neuromotor disorders. Charlene has worked in a variety of pediatric settings including inpatient and outpatient hospital, private clinics, home health, and school systems. She is owner of Happy Hungry Hippos feeding clinic in Roswell, Ga., offering specialized treatment for children with oral motor and feeding delays. Charlene enjoys yoga, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Susan graduated from Boston University’s Sargent College of Allied Health in 1995. She received her NDT certification for “Treatment of Children with Cerebral Palsy” in 2003, completed the Advanced 1 class for 'Yoga for the Special Child' in 2007, and is trained in therapeutic listening. Susan has worked with children for 15 years in an early intervention daycare, home care settings, and both inpatient and outpatient settings in a Children's hospital. Susan currently does contract work in a public school system as well as doing private therapy. She co-owns YogAbility kids, LLC,a company specializing in providing recreational community based yoga and ball gymnastics classes for all children, including those with special needs. In her spare time Susan loves going to Broadway musicals and live concerts.

photoamyCarol Hicks, MS, PT
Carol has been a Pediatric Physical Therapist for over 25 years, graduating in 1982 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and in 1990 from Texas Women's University with a Master of Science in Pediatric Physical Therapy. She has received specialized training in Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation, Myofascial Release, Splinting/Casting, and Neurodevelopmental Treatment through the NDTA, having attended both the 8 week Pediatric Training Course in 1988 and the 3 week Adult Hemiplegia Training Course in 1990. Carol has worked in a variety of pediatric physical therapy settings, including: inpatient rehabilitation, preschool and home-based early intervention services, private outpatient clinics, and outpatient rehabilitation. She served as Therapy Coordinator at the Howard Park Early Intervention Center in St. Louis, Missouri for 10 years and is currently working in a pediatric outpatient clinic. Carol enjoys baking, and traveling to Kansas to spend time with her grandchildren.

photoamybAmy Balkin, MS, OTR/L
Amy has been a pediatric occupational therapist for 15 years.  She graduated from Ithaca College with a BS/MS in occupational therapy in 2001/2002.  Amy worked in public schools and a private sensory integration clinic in Fairfield County, Connecticut before moving to Georgia in 2004.  She has worked in several pediatric settings in the Atlanta area including: home based early intervention, private school, gymnastics-based OT, and private clinics.  Amy currently works in Forsyth County Schools doing preschool evaluation and treatment.  She has also worked for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in the outpatient rehabilitation department for the last 11 years; currently as a PRN OT.  Amy has completed continuing education classes in the areas of autism, cerebral palsy, executive functioning, cardiopulmonary and postural control, and therapeutic listening.  Amy is also SIPT certified through USC/WPS.  Amy enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, travelling to the beaches of South Walton, and reading.
