At Powerhouse Therapy, our patients’ stories are at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to share a testimonial from Sueann, whose children, Gavin and Gage, have experienced significant progress through our pediatric program, particularly with our specialized treatment, Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT). This evidence-based approach has helped many children increase functional movement leading to independence and confidence. Here’s what Sueann had to say about their transformative journey with CIMT at Powerhouse.
Gavin and Gage have been attending Powerhouse Therapy every summer since 2021. Gavin has spasticity CP that affects his entire right side making his muscles stiff and tight. His twin brother Gage has Hypotonia CP, which affects the balance of his whole body. Gavin attends the aquatic, upper, and lower extremity intense programs during the summer program. Gage attends the aquatic and lower extremities during the summer program.
Gavin was army crawling with minimal movement of his right side in 2021, before attending Powerhouse. In 2021, Gavin was in AFOs with leg extensions and very little movement of his right arm, whereas in 2025, he is in just an SMO on his right foot, wearing normal shoes most of the time. With his right arm, he can perform many, if not most, tasks using both hands independently. Gavin presently can stand up for 1-2 minutes by himself, he does not army crawl anymore, and he can walk along walls/ holding onto objects such as a wall, table, etc. Gavin can now get on and off the potty safely and independently. Gavin can do things more independently, such as opening containers and Ziploc bags, dressing and undressing himself, and zippering his backpack/lunchbox. The use of his right side has come a long way since attending these camps. Gavin is now able to attend CP soccer while using his walker, steering it, kicking the ball, dribbling, and even scoring goals!
Gage was just learning to stand up and hold onto walls/tables in 2021, before attending Powerhouse. In 2021, Gage was in AFOs, whereas now, in 2025, he has no braces and is wearing regular shoes. Gage presently can walk independently, walk up and down uneven surfaces, including curbs/stairs, carry his backpack, and walk to the bus stop up/down the driveway, with him feeling safe and independent. Gage can now walk to the potty and get on/off the potty by himself. Gage’s mobility has come an extremely long way since attending these camps. In school, Gage is able to carry his lunch tray independently (most of the time even if it doesn’t always look pretty he can do it! :-)) Gage is now able to attend CP soccer, playing independently, kicking, dribbling, and even scoring goals and blocking! (He may fall from time to time, but what a major achievement)
Their progress is remarkable due to the intensive programs at Powerhouse Therapy, I am very happy and proud. I was able to take these boys ROLLER SKATING, with starter roller skates and buddies (they are like walkers but for skating) Gage is getting close to not needing the buddy! 🙂 Gavin is still working on his balance, but what a major improvement! If you are looking for a program to bring your child to the next level, this is the program to choose. I owe great thanks to Charlene, the Director, and the entire team of amazing therapists for the progress I have seen in these boys over the past few years.
